Help the internet trading special project

04 May 2010

Powys County Council have been successful in gaining funding from The Welsh Assembly government under the Companion Animal Welfare Enhancement Scheme (CAWES) to carry out a special project looking at The Online Trading of Exotic Species. The aim of the project is to establish the extent of Internet Trading of Exotics Species in Wales and follows a two year project looking at Internet trading of companion animals. The Internet trading project found increasing numbers of exotic species being offered for sale on the Internet and it was decided to look at this specialist area in more detail.

The new project will establish the number of traders and keepers using the Internet to trade exotic species in Wales, establish the number of exotic species not subject to DWA legislation kept in a domestic situation as a companion animal and raise awareness among keepers and traders of requirements under The Animal Welfare Act 2006.

Members of The Animal Welfare Network Wales who are interested in exotic species and are able to assist are asked to contact either-
